From silver stars to energy stars — the Environmental Protection Agency has recognized two Defense Department installations for their energy efficient approaches toward generating power.

EPA recognized the Army Garrison at Fort Bragg in North Carolina and the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms, Calif. with the Energy Star Combined Heath and Power Award. Using combined heat and power — or CHP — the bases reported annual energy savings of $6.8 million, according to an EPA release.

Gary McNeil, a co-manager of EPA's Combined Heat and Power Program, joined In Depth with Francis Rose to discuss what the two bases did to earn the awards.
