NASA Ames Research Center is exploring ways to move its virtual collaboration services, mobility systems, and business processes to the cloud. NASA Ames Chief Information Officer Jerry Davis says he’s working with agency headquarters to set up a cloud service office that will help the agency start a transition to a commercial government-only cloud system. Davis says he and NASA headquarters are still experimenting and refining the cybersecurity requirements and settings for cloud systems. That includes a pilot program currently underway; it’s testing how NASA can track the usage and billing information of cloud vendors that meet its security demands. Davis expects to have a cloud design model the entire agency can use within the next year or so.
