Cloud budgets at some federal agencies are twice as large as they were in 2012. For most, that means they grew from 1% to 2% of an agency’s IT budget. The Government Accountability Office looked at cloud budgets for seven different agencies to get a glimpse of cloud computing trends across the federal government. The largest gains were at the Agriculture Department: its cloud budget tripled from 1% to 3%. The Treasury Department devotes the biggest chunk of its IT budget to the cloud at 6%, but that’s just a 1% gain since 2012. Progress may look slow, but it is steady. GAO says those seven agencies added a total of 80 new cloud services to their IT portfolios in that two-year span.
