DoD makes slow progress towards clean 2017 audit

Under current law, DoD is to begin to show measurable progress toward successfully completing an audit by undergoing a partial review of next year's financial statements. That 2014 deadline is fast approaching. Most outside observers are skeptical that the Pentagon will make it but DoD is still optimistic.

Mark Easton, the department's deputy chief financial officer, told DoD Reporter Jared Serbu the challenges are significant. This includes the fact that many of the enterprise resource planning systems DoD will need for long-term audit readiness still aren't ready for prime time.
