For the first time ever, a Federally Funded Research and Development Center completely devoted to protecting information systems will open soon. It will run as part of the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence in Montgomery County, Maryland. The National Institute of Standards and Technology awarded the contract to run the new center to the non-profit MITRE Corporation. Richard Marchase is vice president for Research and Economic Development at the University of Alabama at Birmingham — he’s helping the Center get off the ground. On In Depth with Francis Rose, he explained the role academia will play in the new operation.
