This year the Combined Federal Campaign came to a halt because of the shutdown. Thanks to the Defense Department, the Navy’s CFC is extending its deadline to Jan. 15. Rama Latin is the Charitable Campaigns Administrator for the Navy.

Changes in whistleblower protection laws have caused an uptick in cases making it to the Office of Special Counsel. Carolyn Lerner heads that Office. She recently testified at a Senate Subcommittee hearing about the OSC’s achievements in strengthening government whistleblower protection.

Nearly two years in the making, the Justice Department proves that governing the online access of federal, state and local law enforcement officials to specific data is both possible and beneficial. The back-end attribute exchange provides a standard way for different organizations to safely and securely share data. Mike Kennedy is the executive for assured interoperability for the Program Manager of the Information Sharing Environment. He tells Federal News Radio Executive Editor Jason Miller about the recent DOJ initiative to test out the back-end attribute exchange.

The legal battle between two technology industry trade groups has ratcheted up. Sued by TechAmerica, the IT Industry Council is counter-suing. It calls the TechAmerca suit “fatally deficient and nebulous.” ITI is asking the Superior Court of D.C. to dismiss the other group’s actions. Jason Miller has details.

Over the past decade, the military has exponentially increased the amount of battlefield intelligence data it collects via unmanned aerial systems and other platforms. Unfortunately, it hasn’t developed all of the processes it needs to turn that fire hose of data into real-time, actionable information for small units of warfighters on the ground. The Marine Corps started to tackle that problem this fall in a technology demonstration called Agile Bloodhound.

John Moniz manages the program at the Office of Naval Research. He speaks with Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu about some emerging IT capabilities that offer the promise of delivering vital real-time data that Marines have never had on the battlefield before.
