“This is the most closed, control freak administration I’ve ever covered.” That’s what veteran Washington Reporter David Sanger of the New York Times is quoted as saying in a new report by the Committee to Protect Journalists. The bottom line of “The Obama Administration and the Press”: While the president pledges transparency, his administration is cracking down on leaks to an unprecedented degree and using other means to control the message coming from the government. The report is written by former Washington Post Executive Editor Leonard Downie, now a professor at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism.

The Homeland Security Department recently swore in 17 veterans. They are part of a new program to boost Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s efforts to catch child predators. The members of the HERO Corps are now working with ICE throughout the country. Brock Nicholson is special agent in charge at ICE Homeland Security Investigations in Atlanta. He’s been a part of the program from the beginning.
