In today’s Sammies segment, we meet John MacKinnon. He supervises the homeland security investigations unit of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Boston. His team has rescued more than 160 victims of child pornography and arrested more than 50 child predators since 2010.

Workplace violence seems to be an unfortunate but recurring part of modern life. At the least, it can be two angry coworkers slugging it out. At the worst, it can be a mass shooting murder like the incident Monday at the Washington Navy Yard. This guest is a former police commissioner who specializes in workplace violence. Yesterday, it was back to work for most of the employees at the Washington Navy Yard. Most of the base reopened with the exception of the headquarters of Naval Sea Systems Command, the site of Monday’s mass shooting. Vice Adm. Bill French is the commander of Navy Installations Command, which overseas Navy bases throughout the world. He tells Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu about the yard’s current status, and what the service is doing to help its employees cope.

The National Park Service has teamed up with the New York City Education Department to open a one of a kind high school. The Stephen T. Mather Building Arts and Craftsmanship High School will offer students a hands-on experience in carpentry, masonry, plastering and other preservation-related trades. Julia Washburn is the associate director for Interpretation, Education and Volunteers at the National Park Service.
