New tool will help Air Force speed up civilian hiring process

Agencies are trying to fill vacancies within 80 days, which has been difficult for the Defense Department to do. The Air Force said its new onboarding tool would replace one that doesn't meet federal requirements.
Currently, new civilian hires must fill out their in-processing documents via the Civilian Virtual Inprocessing system, which can be found online at the Air Force's personnel services website. That system, though, does not meet federal requirements because it doesn't connect inprocessing information to the employee's electronic official personnel folder (eOPF).
"The Air Force has been working with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management to develop a new on-boarding tool since late 2009 when we found out enhancements to cVIP would not meet Enterprise Human Resources Integrations requirements for the OPM eOPF," said Nancy Tackett, a supervisory human resources specialist with the Air Force Personnel Center.
The USA Staffing Onboarding Manager should reduce the number of documents that Air Force HR staff have to manually process. It will also simplify the inprocessing method and reduce errors for hiring managers, human resource officals and employees.
The service will phase it in beginning April 23 at Air Force Reserve Command, Pacific Air Forces, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Arnold AFB, Tenn., Robins Air Force Base, Ga.,and Eglin AFB, Fla., with the aim of replacing cVIP serivicewide by August.
